RQ School State Championships
The RQ School State Rowing Championships are held in Bundaberg and Rockhampton on alternate years, and this is the largest School Regatta of the year and attracts rowers of all ages and abilities state wide.
Bundaberg: famous as the home of Bundaberg Rum, the "Bucca" rowing course is an eight lane, 2000 meter fully buoyed course. Located at the Bucca Weir at the end of a 6 km stretch of rowable river, "Bucca" is approximately 40 km's from the city centre and set in a picturesque natural environment with a natural elevated viewing area located adjacent to the finish line and boat launching/landing area.
Rockhampton: situated on the Fitzroy River, Rockhampton lies 40 kilometres inland from the beautiful Capricorn Coast beaches, and is the "beef capital" of Australia. The "Rocky" rowing course is an eight lane, 2000 meter fully buoyed course. Located at the end of a 40 km stretch of river ideal for long rows, the course is less than 5 km's from the city centre and set in a picturesque natural environment. The course has hosted a number of international rowing camps including the Australian Olympic Teams staging camp prior to the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, and the in 2005 the Australian Masters Rowing Championships.
With racing catering for all school age categories, races are held over the 1000, 1500 and 2000 meter distance with tempory starting "blocks" installed at the 2000 meter start; held starts (2000 meter with use of both a visual and audible starting procedure) and side starts (1500 and 1000 meter) in line with RA standards for running a National Championship regatta are used throughout the whole event.
I hope you enjoy the photos as much as you did racing at the regatta .... I had a great time photographing the event ....
Cheers
 Dave
