The 2009 Australian Masters Rowing Championships returned to the Fitzroy River in Rockhampton, Central Queensland - situated on the Fitzroy River, Rockhampton lies 40 kilometres inland from the beautiful Capricorn Coast beaches, and is the "beef capital" of Australia.
The "Rocky" rowing course is an eight lane, 2000 meter fully buoyed course. Located at the end of a 40 km stretch of river ideal for long rows, the course is less than 5 km's from the city centre and set in a picturesque natural environment. The course has hosted a number of international rowing camps including the Australian Olympic Teams staging camp prior to the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, and the in 2005 the Australian Masters Rowing Championships.
With Masters racing over the 1000 meter distance and a tempory and portable starting pontoon installed, held starts and use of both a visual and audible starting procedure in line with RA standards for running a National Championship regatta was used throughout the whole regatta.
Once again, this Championship Regatta will be the largest Masters Regatta of the year and has attracted rowers for all over the country from novice to former AUS representatives.
Thank-you ....
.... to you, the competitor from the Organising Committee, the Board of RQ, President of RA, and the Regional Council of Rockhampton, the RA BRO's and the many volunteers from the rowing community in Rockhampton for you attendance at the largest Masters Regatta of 2009!
.... to the Organising Committee and the Board of RQ for the appointment of Oarsome Images as the Official Photographer: in particular Christian Renford and Cameron Allen for their support and advice leading up to and during the regatta.
To Brian Nash, Steve Hinchy, and Michael Eastaughffe and their team of RQ BRO's – they allowed almost unlimited access to the course for the photography boat.
To Rob "Langy" Lang and his team of volunteers on land and water: they kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
.... to my staff ....
Ben and Jay - the photographers: it is their eye for "a shot" and attention to detail that has resulted in the images on this group of web pages.
Rob - tinnie driver and desk/sales: Robs in depth knowledge of rowing enabled the tinnie to be in the right place at the right time during racing, and that same knowledge proved equally as beneficial on the desk in assisting competitors in their purchasing of images.
Andrew h desk/sales: like Rob, Andrew has an in depth knowledge of rowing and was the driving force at the sales desk on both Saturday and Sunday.
It was true team effort (not unlike rowing itself) – Ben and Jay's brilliant images, and Andrew and Rob's knowledge of rowing and keen eye for a great rowing "shot" that made this group of web pages possible ....
Ben, Jay, Andrew, Rob – thank-you for all you hard work .... Eady
I hope you enjoy the photos as much as you did racing at the regatta .... we had a great time photographing the event ....
Cheers
Ben, Jay, Rob, Andrew, and Dave
